Crop Condition |
The "Crop Condition" product provides simulated estimates of real-time, forecast, and climatological data of crop health throughout the growing season. Crop condition tracks the stage and yield of a current-season crop relative to the stage and yield of a historically successful crop. That is, if the current-season crop is on a similar development and growth track as a crop in a high-yielding season, then the current-season crop is scored as having an "excellent" condition.
Crop condition is presented as a percentage from 0 to 100, which corresponds to a range in conditions from disastrous to excellent. In between these two extremes, a crop condition can be interpreted as very poor, poor, fair, and good. Since crop condition is quantified from 1 to 100% in the product, it is up to the client to interpret the range of percentages into a qualitative state, such as good or fair. An example of the Crop Condition product in map form is shown below at the county scale for the conterminous US on June 30, 2008.
